The Unemployed

We work with the VEC advertising their BTEI and FETAC courses in the Adult Education Centre. We organise and carry out leaflet drops, put up posters, include articles in our Newsletter and spread by word of mouth news of the courses run in our centre and those organised by other agencies.

We invite women from all walks of life to the training undertaken by the Cross Border Women's Collective. We include women from all walks of life.

We develop flyers providing information on rights and entitlements on unemployment, health, budgeting, pensions and back to school allowances etc. in conjuction with Citizens Information Service and MABS. These are distributed in our Newsletter which is published quartely.

We organise, acquire funding and tutors all courses availible to the unemployed
through the local papers, in the local Social Welfare Office and in our Newsletter. We provided free computer and internet access. We also assisted individuals who lost their obs on where they could recieve training and education, in-depth information on rights and entitlements, use of phone, research information and other relevant information. We worked with the other agencies who provide education by distrubing their inrmation to the unemployed by posters and letter drop.

We have been working with various groups including the Town Council and County Council to try and develop a community garden at the old people's homes with part of the area to be made in allotments for people to grow organic fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately, due to cutbacks we are still waiting for the funding, but we will continue to look at other avenues to advance this plan.
